Flashback – Italy 2010
Part 3 – Taormina
In the final chapter of this flashback trip to Italy, we took a bus from the city of Messina to the beautiful tourist spot on the east coast of Sicily, the town of Taormina. This gorgeous town in the mountains sits 206m (676ft) above sea level and offers one of the most spectacular panoramas overlooking the Ionian sea. As a major tourist attraction it was filled with shops and restaurants that scaled the winding roads that carve their way through the mountainside.
High up amongst the town sits a spectacular archeological treasure…an incredible Greek theatre that looks out at the sea and surrounding mountains. On a clear day, even Sicily’s massive volcano, Mt. Etna, can be seen in the distance. The theatre, while not entirely intact, has survived since the 7th century BCE and is still used for concerts today!
